GI & OBI
For beginner students, a Karate gi is not required until rank is achieved, after which techiques require a gi.
Karate gi (空手着 or 空手衣) is the Japanese name for the karate training uniform. There are many different kinds of Karate gi's. Master Funakoshi modeled the Shotokan gi from the durable Judo gi.
TAKING CARE OF YOUR GI
Taking care of your gi is important to for hygene, but also for the preservation and durabilty.
Below is a simple diagram of how to fold and transport your gi.
